Whilst website design is personal and the overall design of your Squarespace website (other website providers are available! 😉) needs to follow your personal branding guidelines, it needs to perform an important function - to guide your browser to take the next step in your process towards becoming a client.

So before you create your personal branding photography shot list to bring your messaging to life, you’ll first need to map out the journey you’ll be taking your future client on.

What are the 5 top tips for creating a website home page that converts?

  1. Create a compelling heading that’s incredibly clear

  2. Keep it simple!

  3. Have an upfront and clear CTA (call to action) button

  4. Make it bite-sized

  5. Keep offers above the fold

So let’s look at these in more detail…

A compelling headline

This needs to be a strong, clear and concise message - either a question that will resonate with your ideal client or a statement of intent.

Either way, it needs to make it explicitly clear who you are for, so that your dream clients will know they’re in the right place and stick around to find out more.

Avoid wishy-washy headers that aren’t clear on what you do and who you help!

Keep it simple!

A confused mind says no, so don’t confuse your potential clients!

I work with lots of business owners who have many strings to their bow, so the secret is always finding the overarching theme that the services you offer all hang from.

CTA

I can’t stress enough how important it is to have clear calls to action (CTAs) throughout your website to allow your browser to opt-in at the point that’s right for them. However some people will come to your website with the sole purpose of booking a call with you, so make it easy for them to do that. Make it above the fold, clear & concise.

Bite-sized content

We’re all busy and if something looks too complicated, we’re likely to just switch off and look elsewhere. This means you could not only be losing a potential client but you’ll also upset Google as you’ll be increasing your bounce rate!

You can achieve this via a creative layout and lots of negative space, images with text or contrasting colours - anything that breaks all the info up.

Keep offers above the fold

The “fold” is what you can see on a screen without having to scroll down, so everything important need to be above that line.
